Pet grooming is as important to the health of your four-footed companions as regular health checks, yearly vaccinations, a proper diet and enough exercise. Grooming not only assures that your animal's skin, coat, eyes, ears, nails and teeth are in the best condition possible, a regular grooming routine can act as an early warning system for any health problems that may threaten your pet's well-being. It also allows you to spend some quiet, quality time with your pet on a regular basis.
At Glen Park Animal Hospital, we recommend a grooming routine that not only keeps your pet looking good, but also helps to socialize your pet and minimizes problem behavior. Daily brushing is not only a pleasant routine for you and your cat or dog, but it will help control shedding, removes dust and any accumulated debris from the animal's coat, and prevents tangling and matting. It can also help calm an active animal, making your dog easier to train or instilling trust in a skittish kitten.
We recommend that you establish a routine for trimming your pet's nails as well. Our staff will be happy to teach you how to do it safely and properly. At the same time, you can massage an animal's feet and thighs, checking for cuts, scratches, burrs and pests, one of the best ways to assure that your pet remains active and mobile. Especially with an older animal, it is important to keep those feet and legs healthy. You can also examine your pet's abdomen to make sure there are no bruises, bumps or discoloration. Your animal will let you know if you find a tender spot, alerting you to a possible problem.
Regular home grooming should include periodic tooth brushing as well, one of the best ways to assure that your animal's mouth, teeth and gums are healthy and to prevent bad breath. Be sure to ask us for some tips on how to get started if you have not brush a pet's teeth in the past.
Just as we know that you are concerned with proper hygiene for the human members of your family, we are concerned with helping you establish beneficial pet grooming and health routines. We realize that you might not want to take full responsibility for all aspects of grooming. That's why we also offer full grooming services at Glen Park Animal Hospital in Gary, IN. During a scheduled appointment for a "bath and a haircut," we will not only help your animal look its best, but we will also take the opportunity to check for clear eyes and healthy ears, to monitor your pet's skin condition and weight, and to check for possible abnormalities or behavior problems that could indicate a need for more thorough examination.
It's just one more reason to choose Glen Park Animal Hospital as your full-service veterinary clinic. Why not contact us to schedule your pet's next visit?
$35 Flea and Tick Bath
I have been bringing all of my dogs to Glen Park Animal Hospital for the past 20 years and have found their service to be excellent! I am a nurse and have found that the care, competency and compassion that the entire staff gives to the animals is as good as (and in some instances even better than) the "human doctors/hospitals"!! Dr. Larson explains everything and does good follow-up with my "fur-babies". You can tell that the entire staff loves their job!
